Zine imposition, explained
What is zine imposition?
Imposition is rearranging a document's pages so that, once printed double-sided and folded, they read in the right order. For a saddle-stitch zine, one stack of sheets folded in half and stapled at the spine, page 1 has to share a sheet with the last page, and so on inward. Zine Maker does that reordering for you and outputs print-ready spreads.
Do I need InDesign or special software?
No. Zine Maker is free and runs entirely in your web browser, no InDesign, no design degree, no install. It's a simple alternative to pro layout software when all you need is to turn a finished PDF into a foldable booklet.
How do I print my zine?
Print the downloaded PDF double-sided (duplex), set to flip on the short edge, and at 100% / actual size, not "fit to page." Keep the sheets in order, fold the whole stack in half, and staple along the fold. The pages read in order with no reshuffling.
What sizes can I make?
Mini zine (quarter-letter), regular zine (half-letter), and magazine (letter) presets, plus a custom trim size in inches or millimetres. Each sheet holds two pages side by side as a spread.
Is my file private?
Yes. Your PDF is processed on your own device and is never uploaded to a server or stored anywhere. When you close the tab, it's gone. We can't see your file, and neither can anyone else.
Any limitations?
Zine Maker makes a single folded signature, so very thick page counts (over ~64 pages) won't fold cleanly. Mixed page sizes in one PDF scale unevenly, and password-protected PDFs may not open. There are no crop marks or bleed, it's built for DIY home and copy-shop printing, not commercial print runs.
